Happy royal wedding anniversary, Will and Kate!

Last year we posted lots of royal wedding cupcakes to celebrate Prince William and Kate Middleton's April 29th wedding, including the infamous Princess Eugenie's hat cupcake by Wir Machen Cupcakes. A year and a day later, we're wishing them a happy anniversary. Here's one we didn't see until recently that is pretty funny, by Big Sugar Bakeshop in Studio City, California, which was their daily special last April 29th.

Mountain Dew & Doritos Cupcake?!

Um...WHAT?! Yes, this is a Mountain Dew and Doritos Cupcake and I'd like to say this was the only image I found of this concoction but it's not! This ultimate junk food cupcake has actually been featured as a dessert at the 4 Rivers Smokehouse in Florida, although their version looks a little more palatable. Now here's the big question...Would you try it?

Cupcake flavor mania: peanut butter pickle and apple cookie dough

Bloggers keep on baking up cupcake flavors I never would've thought of in a million years! Raw food blogger Shannonmarie at Rawdorable has made peanut butter pickle cupcakes, and has the recipe, while Lizzy Mae at Your Cup of Cake created apple cookie dough cupcakes. Butter Lane Unveils New Cupcake Flavor

Rachel and I stopped by Butter Lane yesterday to see co-owner Maria Baugh and try some of the new cupcake offerings.

Counterfolks Lauren Henry and Eric Hoop helped us out:

We were there to try the newest flavor to the lineup, chocolate chip cookie dough!

It's chocolate cake with cookie dough filling (baked in!) and cookie dough frosting.

SO good!  The cake was standard chocolate cake but the creamy dough-y filling lent it some texture and "goo" and the frosting wasn't too sweet.

Maria says it's the cupcake the devil creates in his kitchen. Agreed!

We also tried the inside-out, a frozen cupcake treat:

Cookie dough filling made it yummy and the frozen chocolate cake was moist and chewy. Rachel thought it was brownie-esque, and I agree. A cakelike brownie.

Hello, Cupcake! launches iPad and iPhone cupcake decorating app

The wait is over! The Hello, Cupcake! app by bestselling authors Karen Tack and Alan Richardson (Hello, Cupcake!, What's New, Cupcake? and Cupcakes, Cookies and Pie, Oh My!) is here! Download it for the iPad or iPhone using from the Apple store. I saw a prototype when I took a class from Karen and Alan a few weeks ago and it walks you through literally every step of the process. You click on an image and are shown how to decorate the cupcake. Pretty cool! Here's some sample screenshots:

I keep forgetting that before Mother's Day, we have Cinco de Mayo, so will try to make up for that before next Saturday with some Cinco de Mayo posts, like this one featuring these incredibly adorable and easy to make Cinco de Mayo cupcake toppers using marshmallows to add sombreros and sarapes (shawls, can also be spelled serapes) to your cupcakes! I don't know if there are cupcake bakery years like there are dog years, but certainly five years as a successful cupcake bakery that has steadily expanded is something to celebrate, and SAS Cupcakes in Newark, Delaware and Charlotte, North Carolina, is doing so by giving away free cupcakes today! Free cupcakes at Sprinkles starting May 2nd to promote the film People Like Us

Short version: Go to any Sprinkles Cupcakes bakery on May 2nd from noon-2 and say "People Like Us" and get a free cupcake! It's to promote the movie People Like Us, in theaters June 29th. I wonder if there are cupcakes in the movie? That would make this a very fitting promo, but either way, you win with free cupcakes! Via the Sun Herald.

DreamWorks Pictures announced today that they are teaming up with Sprinkles Cupcakes to promote their film “People Like Us” with events at the ten Sprinkles Cupcakes stores around the country. The promotion will run from May 2-June 29, 2012, and is centered around five family-themed holidays: Brothers and Sisters Day (May 2), Mother’s Day (May 13), Visit Your Relatives Day (May 18), Father’s Day (June 17) and National Forgiveness Day (June 26).

On the designated “People Like Us” holidays, Sprinkles Cupcakes in all ten locations will give out a free cupcake to each customer who comes in between the hours of 12 noon and 2 p.m. and says, “People Like Us.” Any customer can vote online for the official “People Like Us” flavor and the winning cupcake will be announced the week of the film’s opening. Customers can also pick up punch cards in Sprinkles Cupcakes stores, redeemable on the selected “People Like Us” holidays for a free cupcake.
