Cosmos And Cupcakes: A Recap
You don't know hard work until you have judged a cupcake contest. I am mostly kidding, but it is harder than you think. Last night, I judged fifteen cupcakes at the inaugural Eight County Cupcake War as part of the Cosmos and Cupcakes fundraiser. The event well held at the St.Anthony's Pier 9, a grand event space in the Hudson Valley, which is typically used for weddings and proms. Judging with me was Beth Feldman, owner of Sweet and Social in Larchmont. Cosmos and Cupcakes is a joint production of three nonprofits dedicated to serving the needs of cancer patients in the area. Miles Of Hope executive director Pari Forood invited me to judge, and all proceeds benefit the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation, the Greater Hudson Valley Family Health Center, Inc., and the Littman Cancer Center at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital.
The fan favorite was a chocolate and coconut cupcake.
Honorable mention went to the yummy Yuzu and Habanero Cupcakes from Twisted Soul. The flavor combination was like a sophisticated version of a lemon meringue pie.
The winner had both great presentation and great taste! Gwen deSousa made a chocolate espresso cupcake with a kick of cayenne pepper.
