More on the $9,800 2,000 pound 5,000-cupcake tank Georgetown Cupcake built to celebrate the U.S. Army's 237th birthday! Forgot to say yesterday that the tank actually fires cupcakes; how amazing is that?

Georgetown Cupcake co-owner says building $9,800 cupcake tank was "coolest experience of our lives"

Posted by Unknown at 10:35 AM 0 comments
Wired has a short video and more information about the cupcake tank, a model of an M1 Abrams tank, built by Georgetown Cupcake:
“It was the coolest experience of our lives,” Sophie Lamontagne, the co-owner of Georgetown Cupcake, told Danger Room. Her pink smock was smeared with frosting. “I’ve probably been up since 6 a.m. yesterday,” she says, helping her crew build a sugary, sticky replica of the M1 — a $9,800 birthday present to the Army, covered in camouflage fondant and mocha buttercream.

Lamontagne also planned to put on a show — especially because TLC’s cameras were filming the tank at the Army’s Pentagon birthday party. Wires ran out from the tank’s innards, connecting an unfrosted 5-inch diameter cannon to an external air compressor. An ammunitions specialist from the bakery stuffed a cupcake into the barrel. The cupcake tank was armed. With a blast, a mid-morning dessert burst forth, splattering cake and fondant onto the courtyard walkway. A cheer went out.

Posted by Unknown at 11:26 AM 0 comments
If you're in New York City, Washington, DC or Bethesda, Maryland today, get yourself to Georgetown Cupcake for a free cupcake (one per person) to celebrate tonight's episode of their TLC reality show DC Cupcakes, which chronicles the opening of their SoHo (Manhattan) shop. Photos (except where noted) below via Georgetown Cupcake on Facebook.

Burger cupcakes available by pre-order only

And I took these last Friday at their SoHo store. I bought their new June flavors, lavender Earl Grey and white chocolate raspberry, and a coconut and hazelnut crunch. I like their regular better than these new ones, though white chocolate raspberry was interesting (especially the only on Saturday only mint cookies & creme). I may give them another try. I also highly recommend the black and white cookie cupcake if you are a fan of black and white cookies; each color has a different taste and texture and they combine perfectly.

9-year-old author Carrie Berk has coolest book party ever, complete with chocolate fountain, custom book cover cupcakes and cupcaketinis, for debut novel Peace, Love and Cupcakes

Posted by Unknown at 6:02 PM 0 comments
We'll have more about 9-year-old debut author Carrie Berk, who blogs about cupcakes at Carrie's Cupcake Critique and her new novel, the first in a series, Peace, Love and Cupcakes, about a group of little girls who form a cupcake club at their school, start a cupcake business, fight bullies and have fun baking, decorating and learning about each other. It was written along with her mom, Sheryl Berk, and will officially be on sale Tuesday, April 3rd, in print and ebook form. And of course there are cupcake recipes at the back of the book, including one for ecolicious cupcakes and others that play a role in the plot.

Here are a few snapshots from tonight's amazing book party at Dylan's Candy Bar in Manhattan; it is a dream space and was set up with a chocolate fountain where you could get Peeps, marshmallows, Rice Krispie treats, pretzels, strawberries or bananas dipped in it, a cupcaketini cocktail, which had Frangelico, Bailey's and Kahlua (adults only, obviously) and adorable custom mini cupcakes courtesy of Georgetown Cupcake, which managed to replicate the book cover exactly, with glitter! So much fun and if you have little kids, check out Peace, Love and Cupcakes; the next novel, Recipe for Trouble will be out in November. You can also follow Carrie on Pinterest as well as @CBCupcakeCritic on Twitter and on Facebook. Congratulations on a sweet party and a sweet book!
