Last week a fellow food blogger invited me to lunch at Donatella, a Napoletana pizza place in Chelsea owned by Donatella Arpaia. The pizzas were great, but since this is a blog about cupcakes, I have to tell you about this golden cupcake. It's a hazelnut crunch cupcake with Devil's food cake with chocolate hazelnut cream center, hazelnut praline buttercream and toasted hazelnuts. It was delicious! Also I would be remiss in not mentioning that the rainbow cookie ice cream sandwich at Donatella was just named the best ice cream sandwich in New York City. It is almond-flavored with a thin layer of bittersweet ganache that gives the sandwich a touch of chocolate flavoring, these red, white and green cakes surround a homemade vanilla gelato topped with just a touch of strawberry rhubarb jam.

Next Cupcake Meetup: Cupcake Eating in Chelsea
The last two cupcake meetups have been in Brooklyn, so the May meetup returns to Manhattan with a meetup/casual crawl in Chelsea. First, we will meet up at Empire Cake in Chelsea, and then walk over to Chelsea Market where there are three more bakeries to indulge in cupcakes, Eleni's, Amy's Bread and Ruthy's. If it is a nice day, we can congregate after cupcake shopping at The Highline.
Cupcakes Take The Cake Meetup
Saturday, May 12 2PM-4PM
Empire Cake 112 Eighth Avenue
New York, NY 10011
Empire Cake is conveniently located near the 14th Street stop on the A/C/E line. RSVP
