Cupcakes I've never seen before: Ice cube cupcakes! Plus a cottontop tamarin, Darth Vader, a big elephant and a s'mores cucpake

Posted by Unknown at 7:18 AM 0 comments
Leave it to the innovative Disney's Hollywood Studios to make cupcakes I've never seen before: ice cube cupcakes! Via Disney Food Blog. These were posted in November 2011, and were holiday ice cubes. From the post: "According to Sue, it seems to be a regular chocolate cupcake. From the look of it, it seems to be “dusted” with snow and features a twinkly light-up ice cube in the middle! Kind of like a snowy iceberg floating out at sea!"

This would be a good time to tell you that right now the Disney Food Blog 2012 Cupcake Crawl is going on! Check out the post for details.

Other Disney cupcake offerings, all via posts at Disney Food Blog, which I highly recommend for its always-fun and sometimes over-the-top posts about items you never would've imagined: a cottontop Tamarin cupcake, Darth Vader and a giant elephant! And my still-favorite cupcake flavor: s'mores.

Review: s'mores and marshmallow cupcakes at House of Cupcakes in Princeton, New Jersey

Posted by Unknown at 1:36 PM 0 comments
I stopped in at Cupcake Wars winners House of Cupcakes in Princeton, New Jersey today, and bought a marshmallow and a s'mores cupcake ($2.25 each) to compare them. The s'mores had chocolate cake that I found pretty tasteless, the marshmallow had a light, spongy cake that was almost angel foodesque. What's funny is that I liked the topping on the s'mores cupcake better; the marshmallow frosting was sortof like marshmallow fluff but less sticky, and it had little crunchy sweet bits (not sure what they were) and a dollop of chocolate frosting on top. The marshmallow cupcake was good but, as marshmallow tends to be, extremely sweet, so only those with a very high sugar tolerance would I recommend that to. I've been there before and like the range of cupcake flavors they offer, and will be back, but I'd love to see the s'mores topping on a different cake. A s'mores cupcake to put all other s'mores cupcakes to shame

A campfire s'mroes cupcake by Memphis, Tennessee cupcake bakery Cocoa Van Cupcake, via their Facebook page. What a marshmallow!

And here are a few other of Cocoa Van Cupcake's cupcakes that look good too (but sorry, not as scrumptious as that s'mores one).

yes, these were Easter cupcakes, but they're still cute

Kitty cat and s'mores cake pops, horse and Earth Day cupcakes and a Wiener dog cupcake cake

Posted by Unknown at 10:03 AM 0 comments
These kitty cat and s'mores and I'm sorry to say I don't know what the other animal is cake pops are by Cupcakes-a-Go-Go in Madison, Wisconsin, as are the Earth Day cupcakes, which are from last year but it's coming up on April 20th so seemed timely! All are from their Facebook page. You can get more info about their shop and their iPhone app at cupcakesagogo.com. The horse cupcake has nothing to do with any of the above but was so incredibly adorable I kindof want to cradle it in my hand (I can't help it, when a cupcake is super cute, my instinct is to admire rather than eat it). That goes many times more for the wiener dog cupcake cake! I saved the best (or at least, my very favorite), for last.

Cookies popping out of cupcakes will always win me over

Posted by Unknown at 10:12 AM 0 comments
Vanilla s'mores cupcakes, but I think the centerpiece of each of these is the bear cookie! They look so lively, like they're about to start dancing or something. Some cupcakes seem designed to bring out the kid in all of us. These almost-too-cute cupcakes are by LA Sweets in Miami, Florida, via Facebook. You can contact them about custom orders at 305-665-5288 and get more information at lasweets.net.
