Big day in cupcake land, with the opening of the new Georgetown Cupcake in Boston (and the new Johnny Cupcakes opening in Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard, which we'll cover separately). 2,000 pound tank made of 5,000 cupcakes at Pentagon to celebrate U.S. Army's birthday

My boyfriend just called me to let me know this 2,000 pound tank made of cupcakes by Georgetown Cupcake was on TV! It's at the Pentagon right now. The tank is made of 5,000 cupcakes and is celebrating the U.S. Army's birthday. @USArmy even Tweeted about it.

And I took these last Friday at their SoHo store. I bought their new June flavors, lavender Earl Grey and white chocolate raspberry, and a coconut and hazelnut crunch. I like their regular better than these new ones, though white chocolate raspberry was interesting (especially the only on Saturday only mint cookies & creme). I may give them another try. I also highly recommend the black and white cookie cupcake if you are a fan of black and white cookies; each color has a different taste and texture and they combine perfectly.

Free cupcakes today as SAS Cupcakes celebrates their 5-year anniversary

I don't know if there are cupcake bakery years like there are dog years, but certainly five years as a successful cupcake bakery that has steadily expanded is something to celebrate, and SAS Cupcakes in Newark, Delaware and Charlotte, North Carolina, is doing so by giving away free cupcakes today! Free cupcakes at Sprinkles starting May 2nd to promote the film People Like Us

Short version: Go to any Sprinkles Cupcakes bakery on May 2nd from noon-2 and say "People Like Us" and get a free cupcake! It's to promote the movie People Like Us, in theaters June 29th. I wonder if there are cupcakes in the movie? That would make this a very fitting promo, but either way, you win with free cupcakes! Via the Sun Herald.

DreamWorks Pictures announced today that they are teaming up with Sprinkles Cupcakes to promote their film “People Like Us” with events at the ten Sprinkles Cupcakes stores around the country. The promotion will run from May 2-June 29, 2012, and is centered around five family-themed holidays: Brothers and Sisters Day (May 2), Mother’s Day (May 13), Visit Your Relatives Day (May 18), Father’s Day (June 17) and National Forgiveness Day (June 26).

On the designated “People Like Us” holidays, Sprinkles Cupcakes in all ten locations will give out a free cupcake to each customer who comes in between the hours of 12 noon and 2 p.m. and says, “People Like Us.” Any customer can vote online for the official “People Like Us” flavor and the winning cupcake will be announced the week of the film’s opening. Customers can also pick up punch cards in Sprinkles Cupcakes stores, redeemable on the selected “People Like Us” holidays for a free cupcake.
