Loki from The Avengers cupcake, complete with helmet, plus Captain America cupcake by Nerdache Cakes

Posted by Unknown at 1:00 PM 0 comments
Check out this Loki cupcake, fans of The Avengers. It's made by 19-year-old New York City baker Ant of Nerdache Cakes! "Loki’s helmet is made from 24 separate fondant pieces, and took over 3 days to put together. It’s pretty screen accurate- besides it being edible! His horns are actually carved pieces of fondant that started as solid rectangles." The others are via Nerdache Cakes on Facebook.

And then we get to two cupcakes that I'm stumped on - anyone know what these are?

Sunshine Cupcakes: Deconstructed

Posted by Unknown at 6:00 AM 0 comments

Summer is here and the skies here in California have been beautifully sunny! I found this kid friendly cupcake while I was perusing Pinterest, but I didn't find a recipe for it...so I decided to deconstruct it!

The cupcake I'm sure can be made with your favorite cake mix and by just dyeing your favorite canned vanilla frosting a bright sunny yellow! The eyes look like upside down mini chocolate chips (though, I'm sure regular size chocolate chips would work just as well, maybe for sunglasses instead!). The smiley looks like a cut piece of sour string. Then we have the rays of sunshine, which are obviously candy corns.

Hopefully now you all can recreate these yourself! I would definitely recommend this to parents with children that are out of school for the Summer, it would be a perfect afternoon activity!

10 outrageous chocolate chip cupcakes for National Chocolate Chip Day!

Posted by Unknown at 6:00 AM 0 comments
Yes, it's another food holiday, a fun one: National Chocolate Chip Day! Now, today is May 15th, and last year we told you that August 4th was National Chocolate Chip Day. I'm going by the authority that is this American Food and Drink Days website (according to them, August 4th is National Lasagne Day), but I could be wrong. I also don't think it would be the end of the world if there were two chocolate chip days. I'm the kind of person who will pick out chocolate chips from my ice cream, and is of the mindset that the more chocolate chips, the merrier. So in honor of this very important holiday, here are 10 quite out of the ordinary chocolate chip cupcakes that I think will make you see the tiny but powerful chocolate chip just a wee bit differently.

Last but not least, the always fun, always creative Shannonmarie of raw food blog Rawdorable made these chocolate chimp protein pancake cupcakes and blogged the recipe at Colourful Palate

Baked Alaska mint chocolate ice cream filled cupcakes by Jeanne Benedict, who has the recipe (how good do these look??)

ice cream cone cupcakes by Chocolate & Carrots

a chocolate chip cupcake post would not be complete without a chocolate chip cookie dough cupcake! This one is by Sugar Monkey Sweets who adapted a recipe by blogger Annie of Annie's Eats, who just celebrated her five-year blogiversary and tweaked her popular chocolate chip cookie dough cupcake recipe for you!

And last but not least, a twofer: mint chocolate chip cupcakes in ice cream cone cupcake form and regular cupcakes, by KristaCakes!

And another treat: a mint chocolate chip cupcake candle, for sale on Etsy by kokocandles.

When Jello Met Cupcakes

Posted by Unknown at 7:00 AM 0 comments

Now here's something I never thought of...mixing Jello with cupcakes! The blog, Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate adapted this recipe from a Tie-Dye Cupcakes recipe in a Rachel Ray magazine.

These cupcakes look fun and are actually quite simple to recreate! Pick your favorite box cake mix (white is recommended), a fun color/flavor of Jello and ta-da! Simply follow the box cake directions and add your jello mix to half the batter! The buttercream frosting is pretty straightforward as well and again, includes some Jello mix. I suppose if you really wanted to, you could use one Jello flavor for the cake and another for the frosting...go crazy! You can see the entire recipe here!

A win for Battlestar Galactica fans and chocolate and Oreo fans! justJENN has made chocolate dipped Oreos with the Battlestar Galactica logo, then turned them into cupcake toppers! Skylanders Stealth Elf cupcakes (whether you know what that is or not)

Posted by Unknown at 6:43 AM 0 comments
JustJENN has done it again by taking a game her kids love, Skylanders (see also the Skylanders Facebook page), and making cupcakes featuring the character Stealth Elf. (No, I had no clue who Stealth Elf was until I read the post but I still admire the ingenuity and effort that went into matching the cupcake to the character.) You can read more about the ups and downs of the process and how she did it on her blog. I like when bloggers share what can potentially go wrong, so that people following along don't feel badly about potentially messing things up, and I truly think the love and care and detail that goes into a cupcake like this makes it worth it, and fun to look at (and, I would imagine, eat).

The cutest cupcakes you'll see all day

Posted by Unknown at 9:27 AM 0 comments
And if you see cuter ones, email them to us! (cupcakestakethecake at gmail.com) Seriously, I know Easter is over but I just stumbled across these hatching chick cupcakes by blogger Buttercream Blondie and am just in awe. She writes:
In my world chicks hatch out of sparkly eggs with little flowers, but that's just me! I made their little beaks out of orange fondant, but you could also use a small orange jelly bean. To make the eyes, I dipped a toothpick in black food coloring and drew them on. Their eyes give them a charming look, and the little fondant flower on top is my little finishing touch. I'm really happy with how they turned out, and they're a fun project for Easter or any Spring themed party!
